HELP! our camera stinks!

we have been talking about getting a new digital camera for over a year now. the time is finally here! our camera is so old and so past its prime that i have to hold the memory stick in just the right way in order for the picture to take! oh my goodness! just writing that makes me feel like a flintstone living in the jetson's world!

so...what does everyone recommend? i'm looking for digital camera suggestions...what do you love? which ones should we steer clear of? any options you're so glad you have? ones you wish you had now that you know about them? preferences on memory sticks vs. other memory options...

thanks everyone! hopefully our blurry pics will be a thing of the past very soon!

You KNOW I'm in love with my camera! It is the best material possession I think I've ever been given, in the past decade at least (it's right up there with that easel I got at Christmas when I was 8!) It is a SLR Canon Rebel XTi. It clicks to fast when you push the button and that is probably my fav feature since most digital cameras have a delay. It takes amazing pictures and you can be as pro or as novice with it as you want. The only down side I see is that since the files are so big, they take a while to upload on your computer and you can't upload more then 4 or 5 at a time onto blogger. I love the weight and the size, but it isn't convenient for throwing in a diaper bag, you have to have its own case cuz it's so big. I have it with me a lot, so if you want to look at it and try it out, you're welcome to! I don't know anything about memory, but I'm happy with the memory card (what's the dif between a card and a stick?) that Jake got to go with it. It says "CompactFlash SanDisk Ultra II 2.0 GB" I have found it totally sufficent for my needs, haven't run out of memory yet, but I'm pretty good about unloading it every other week or so. I took it on vacation and to my sis's wedding and didn't run out of room, but I honestly don't know how much it holds. Hope that helps... I'm in love with my camera, so I can't stop gushing! Oh, and the other camera I was going to suggest you look into is a Nikon SLR. I think they came out with one recently that is an SLR and still allows you to take videos... I don't know, it could all be in my head, but if such a thing does exist, it would be fanastic to have both in one!

i have the Canon S5 IS (there is a newer version out now) and love it. It is not a throw in the bag camera but not as big as the Rebel. Kind of in between. I love the REBEL and would get that for really awesome pics but i needed something to throw in a big bag and give me nice pics too. I also like the movie option on it too and it is easy enough to use that you don't have to be a pro but there are some pro options. Does that make sense? Oh--3 moons you can adjust the setting on your camera so the file size of the pics aren't that big. Here is how: turn camera on. press the func. button. Scroll down to the bottom for the sizef L M1 M2 M3 S. Most cameras are set to Large for optimal pics, but you don't need that setting unless you will make large prints. I usuually have mine at M2. It will make a difference in how many the camera can hold and how long it downloads. Just FYI. Either way Shana--go with a CANON they are the best!!
